An inky, messy fun class using Stampin' Up! ® products

Well good morning (or even evening, afternoon etc) to you! I have just had a fantastically fun, messy, inky class. The reaction of my class ladies when I showed them the projects we were going to make and the technique we were using was soooo fantastic - they were so excited and that set the tone for a wow evening! I love all my classes, but this one was extra special thanks to their responses and I thank each of them for that!

We created 3 projects, 2 cards and a little jotter (notepad) holder decorated with backgrounds created with the shaving foam ink marbling technique. I know I have been playing with this technique since the end of February/beginning of March (Mother's day card for example), but I still love it. It is such fun and I don't think I will tire of it any time soon. I have created a little tutorial which is at the end of this post after the projects, but as usual I wanted to wait until after my class to post the it.

One of the projects we made was a version of the card I made for Demo Support for the #weloveDS appreciation flashmob.

My favourite project of the class though was the 3D one, the little jotter...

I actually used it during class to jot down everyone's drink preferences so I wouldn't forget them. Whilst I was in the kitchen making the teas and coffee, the table tennis ladies came in for their tea break and started asking me questions about the class. We are only at the centre once a month, whilst they are there every week. They loved the jotter holder so much they all came in to have a look at what we were doing and I demonstrated the technique for one lady who was particularly interested. She loved it!

For this project I used:

Stamps: Flower Shop (wood or clear)
Card Stock: Coastal Cabana, Whisper White, Bermuda Bay
Reinkers: Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay
Ink Pads: Bermuda Bay
Punches: Pansy, Petite Petals
Embellishments: Whisper White Baker's Twine, Rhinestone Basic Jewels

I used velcro dots as a fastener.

So how about that tutorial then? Here you go

Step 1: Squirt a thin layer of shaving foam into a tray or paper plate. N.B. it must be shaving foam not gel.

Step 2: Smooth the shaving foam with a flat plastic tool such as a window or putty scraper.

Step 3: Sprinkle droplets of ink over the smooth shaving foam.

Step 4: Using the non-brush end of a paint brush or alternatively a chop stick/wooden skewer, swirl the ink drops to mix into a pretty pattern.

Step 5: Lay a piece of card stock over the top of the shaving foam and gently smooth over the back with your fingers.

Step 6: Gently lift the card stock off the shaving foam and carefully scrape it off. Leave to dry for a few minutes and then remove any excess shaving foam with kitchen towel.

Step 7: Allow to dry – if necessary dry with a heat tool.

  1. It was a really fun class Tracy and I came away with 3 items I am thrilled with (and wont be able to part with). Shaving foam will definitely be on the shopping list this weekend. Thanks again for your hard work prepping the class so we only have to do the 'good' bits. Linda
